Dubai Employment Visa
Dubai stands as the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, renowned as one of the globe’s fastest-growing business hubs. Whether you’re seeking job opportunities abroad, aspiring to establish or expand your business presence, Dubai emerges as an exceptional choice. However, for foreign nationals, securing valid work permits and visas is imperative to operate within the UAE’s legal framework.
Navigating the intricacies of obtaining work permits and visas can be daunting. Thus, having the support of an experienced business consulting firm is invaluable. They ensure a seamless process, streamlining your journey toward obtaining the necessary permits and visas for your ventures in Dubai.
What is a Dubai employment visa?
A work visa is a crucial permit that grants foreigners the authorization to work within a specific country for a designated period. If you’re considering working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or conducting business operations there, you can apply for a 60-day work visa. This visa facilitates your arrival in the country, allowing you to commence work promptly.
During this initial period, it’s essential to apply for both an employment visa and a residency visa through your UAE employer. Typically, these visas are issued for a duration of two years. Additionally, existing residence visa holders have the opportunity to bring in domestic workers, subject to specific conditions.
Types of Dubai employment Visas
Prior to obtaining a work permit in Dubai, foreign nationals must first secure a visa to enter the country. The UAE offers a range of visas and entry permits catering to different purposes, including:
- Visit visas
- Entry permit visas
- Tourist visas
- Student visas
- Multiple-entry visas
- Visas for medical treatment
For individuals seeking to live and work in Dubai, the initial step involves obtaining an entry permit visa. This serves as the foundation for further proceedings in acquiring the necessary permits for residency and employment in the emirate.
Who is Eligible to Apply for a Dubai Work Visa?
Eligibility Criteria for Dubai Work Visa Applications:
To apply for a Dubai work visa, the applicant must satisfy at least one of the following conditions:
Hired while in the country:
- Individuals who secure employment within the UAE can apply for a work visa while still present in the country.
Job opportunity while visiting Dubai:
- Visitors to Dubai on a visit visa or tourist visa who receive a job offer can apply for a work permit.
Transitioning between companies within Dubai:
- Individuals already employed in Dubai who wish to switch to another company can apply for a new work permit.
In the first scenario, the Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation have established centers abroad to streamline the visa process.
For the second case, applicants can obtain their Dubai work permit without returning to their home country. Some airlines offer a ‘visa run’ service, allowing individuals to stopover in a neighboring country until they secure their work permit. Additionally, companies can facilitate the ‘Change Status’ process through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDFRA) in Dubai, eliminating the need to leave the country.
In the third situation, individuals transitioning to a new company in Dubai will receive a new work permit upon joining the new employer. According to the law, employees whose contracts have been terminated are eligible for a new work permit if they secure a new job opportunity.
Employment Permit Visa Requirements
To work in Dubai, foreigners are required to obtain both a residence visa and a work permit. The following documents are necessary to acquire both:
Work Permit:
- Recent photograph against a white background
- Copy of passport (valid for at least six months)
- Copies of education certificates relevant to the job (Attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the applicant’s country)
